Year One is a very important year, we build on the fantastic start your child has made in Reception as they journey into Key Stage One. In Year One, we spend time talking about our learning and thinking about ways we can explore, deepen and build on our prior knowledge. We love to use practical materials to help us and know that we learn best when we make mistakes and understand where we went wrong. We are encouraged to talk about what we know and how we know it, often showing a friend or teacher.

Reading is an important part of our day and we continue to work within our fluid phonic groups. We hope that you will enjoy using some of our quick watch videos to help support your child at home. ( these are made available via our Seesaw App) We will also send home our Book Bag Books which help your child to become fluent readers, using all that they have been learning in their small phoinc groups.

On our Year 1 Curriculum page you will see Termly Overviews which help you better understand what your child is learning about in the classroom and enables you to support them further at home.

We are always here to help so please do not hesitate to contact us via our Seesaw App.

Thank you,

The Year One Team
