This week we enjoyed finding out more about keeping healthy. We had a visit from the Heart Foundation and from the nurses. We helped Year 5 with their PALS training. Our bog eyed jog had to be postponed until after half term due to ppor weather!

Year 3 Health Week Activities - Heartbeat

Heartbeat came to visit St. Peter’s and when Sian came into Year 3, she told us all about our body and the jobs the main organs, skin, veins and arteries, brain and skeleton had. We then had a closer look at a model of a heart and she told us how we can look after it. We had a booklet full of information that we filled in.

Year 3 Health Week Activities - Tennis Maths

During one of our maths lessons, we decided to make it sporty and chose one of the ’Get Set’ Olympic Maths Challenges. The children divided themselves into eight groups. Each group had a tennis raquet, tennis ball, stopwatch, recording sheet, clipboard and pencil. The aim of the activity was to see how many times each player could bounce the ball in 10 seconds. Their first try was recorded, then they all had another try. Next, they had to work out who had beaten their first try. After that, they had to work out the difference between the first and second tries. Then they needed to create a block graph, deciding on its scale. Once this was completed, each child recorded their 2 scores side by side. A very enjoyable time was had by all.

Year 3 Health Week Activities - Paralympic Challenges

St. Peter’s is taking part in a Paralympic challenge, whereby we take part in a variety of activities which requires the children to play them in a different way, ie sitting down volleyball, not being able to use their legs, jingle ball, being blindfolded, relying on their sense of hearing to direct or receive the ball and sitting down Boccia. After having completed these challenges a couple of times, Year 3 realised how challenging they were. This lead them to greatly admiring the Paralympians and thinking about the Paralympic values of Courage, Determination, Inspiration and Equality.
